WINDER - A long way from Tipperary - or the battlefields of World War I - a bomb used in that conflict turned up in Winder.
Sgt. Ryan Sears of the Barrow County Sheriff's Office says a Winder man was working in his yard Tuesday afternoon when he found the bomb and called police.
Sears says the device was a round metal cylinder with four metal fins. He says deputies evacuated the area and called in a bomb disposal unit from the University of Georgia Police Department.
The bomb technicians contacted a U.S. Air Force Explosive Ordinance Device Unit from Dobbins Air Force Base. Sears says the military personnel transported the bomb to the Barrow County Sheriff's Office's shooting range and detonated it.
