Woman attempts to rob bank

Covington Police officials are looking for a woman who attempted to make off with funds from the United Bank in Newton Plaza on U.S. Highway 278 on Thursday morning.

Around 11 a.m. Thursday, a black female wearing a multi-colored Oxford shirt, blue jeans and sunglasses walked up to one of the tellers at the bank.

"The female wrote out a piece of paper demanding money and the teller refused," said Lt. Wendell Wagstaff of the Covington Police.

After the teller refused the suspect’s request, she simply walked out of the bank. Wagstaff said she apparently did not have a weapon. Bank employees then called law enforcement.

Witnesses could not provide a vehicle description, but shortly after the incident a car was stopped on Interstate 20 based on the description witnesses had given of the suspect. The car proved to be unrelated.

"We’re still looking for her at this time," Wagstaff said. "Investigators are working on it."
