Newton County Schools are closed Tuesday due to possible icy conditions across the area.
An announcement went out early this morning that schools would be closed for students, and that all 12-month employees should report two hours late.
The Newton County 911 Center issued a weather warning around 4 a.m. that black ice and slick spots would be possible, and drizzling rain would end by 6 a.m. However, Newton County 911 Deputy Director Jody Nolan said windy conditions caused things to dry up a little more quickly than anticipated.
"To my knowledge we haven't had any significant events associated with icing," Nolan said.
He added that there were a few icy spots throughout the county, but warming temperatures should continue to clear things up.
