Covington City Councilwoman Hawnethia Williams was elected to the Board of Directors for the Georgia Municipal Association during the association's annual meeting in Savannah June 27.

She will serve as first vice president of GMA's 5th District, which includes the counties of Jackson, Madison, Elbert, Barrow, Clarke, Oglethorpe, Morgan, Greene, Newton, Jasper, Walton and Oconee.

"We are pleased to have Councilmember Williams taking on this leadership position," said Jim Higdon, the executive director of the municipal association. "She's well respected by her colleagues, and I'm sure she'll provide great leadership to the cities in her district."

The Atlanta-based municipal association is a voluntary, non-profit organization that provides legislative advocacy, educational, employee benefit and technical assistance services to its 500 member cities.
