Officers from the Covington Police Department were called to the Waffle House on U.S. Highway 278 Oct. 4 when restaurant managers realized a customer passed a counterfeit bill to the store two days earlier.
According to the police report, a man who identified himself as Darrel Williams called the store Oct.3 claiming he received a counterfeit $20 bill with his change when he paid his bill. He reportedly told mangers that he paid for a patty melt plate with a $100 bill on Oct. 2. Williams was told to return to the store, where management exchanged a real $20 bill for the counterfeit money.
On Oct. 4, managers reviewed the surveillance tape from Oct. 2 and discovered the man had not visited the location that day.
The counterfeit bill was taken by the Covington Police Department as evidence.
Wife arrested in steak knife stabbing of husband
A Covington woman was arrested by officers from the Covington Police Department Nov. 11 after she allegedly stabbed her husband in the leg with a kitchen knife. The incident at the Salem Terrace Apartment was a result of a fight over the man’s reported infidelity.
According to the incident report, the two were arguing when the wife grabbed a steak knife from the top of a television set in the living room and stabbed the husband in the leg.
When officers arrived at the apartment, the woman hid the knife under the couch and tried to escape the apartment through a back window.
The husband did not want to press charges, but the wife was taken into custody and charged with aggravated assault and obstruction.
Man arrested for stealing DMX movies
A Covington man was arrested by deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office on Dec. 1 for stealing two DVDs from the Video Warehouse on Brown Bridge Road.
Jarmal Wyatt shoplifted a "Death Toll" DVD and a "Never Die Alone" DVD, which were valued at $10 each and both feature the rap star DMX.
Officers recovered the movies and took Wyatt into custody. Wyatt faces two counts of theft by shoplifting.
