Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff's Department arrived at the Brown Bridge Road location as they were walking inside they could reportedly smell a strong odor of marijuana near the entrance to the restaurant. When they walked inside they noticed a black male, later identified as Victor Damone Belcher, 28, who matched the citizen's description, cooking.
Belcher was asked to come outside and speak with deputies and according to reports, he did so without issue. When asked if he had been outside with two white females Belcher reportedly said that he had. When deputies asked if he had been smoking marijuana with the women he allegedly became nervous and told deputies that he had not been.
According to reports, the deputies immediately noticed that Belcher started to shake "uncontrollably" and their report indicates they could tell his heart rate started to increase. Deputies told Belcher that they could tell by his body language that he was trying to hide something and that it would be best to tell the truth, which allegedly made him shake worse.
Deputies asked Belcher where the marijuana was and he reportedly reached into his right pocket and pulled out a small clear plastic bag with suspected marijuana inside. He was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana less than one ounce, however Belcher was already on probation for other drug charges. He was transported to the Newton County Detention Center.
