U.S. congressional candidate Jody Hice and Newton County Board of Education candidate Stan Edwards will be speaking at 7 p.m. tonight at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, 55 County Road 229, for the regular meeting of the Newton Conservative Liberty Alliance.

Hice is one of six Republicans seeking to replace Rep. Paul Broun (R-Athens) as the representative for Georgia’s 10th congressional district, which covers the eastern half of Newton County and parts of 24 other counties. Hice will be speaking about the current political climate in Washington D.C. and share his proposed solutions, said Elizabeth Allen with the Liberty Alliance.

Edwards is running for District 1 Board of Education, and seeking to replace fellow Republican Jeff Meadors, who announced he would not be seeking reelection.

Allen said there will be a question-and-answer session with each speaker.

The Liberty Alliance will also be discussing efforts to put together a citizens panel to come up with solutions to local issues, including the current effort to reduce the Newton County government property tax rate, Allen said.
