The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) announced its schedule for construction this summer and beyond. While there are four projects on the GDOT list, only two will begin this summer at a date and time to be announced.
Early morning and early afternoon lane closures will occur once GDOT begins widening State Route 142 from I-20 at Hazelbrand Road to Alcovy Road, including Harland Drive to just east of Avenue of Champions. Lanes could be closed from 6 to 8 a.m. and 4 to 7 p.m.
GDOT crews will replace and upgrade existing signage on I-20 at 22 locations between Newton and Richmond counties. The work will be done using shoulder closures.
Crews will realign Henderson Mill Road, County Route 508, with work slated to end by May 31, 2017. State Route 36 at County Route 181/Flat Shoals/Steel Road and County Road 508 in Henderson Mill will be affected, though traffic will be maintained on existing roadways during construction.
The bridge over the Yellow River on State Route 36, 14 miles south of Covington Bridge will be rebuilt, with work slated to end by May 31, 2018. Traffic will use State Route 162 and State Route 212 as an off-site detour until the bridge is complete. Local traffic will be allowed along State Route 36 up to the construction zone.
