Two children recently were recently adopted by families in Newton County after work by many in the area.

Alcovy Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), Newton County DFCS, Newton County Juvenile Court and Newton County Superior Court came together to celebrate the adoptions Wednesday.

Juvenile Court works hard to reunite families when children enter foster care. But when that reunification is not an option, the prospect of adoption is then considered.

“Every child deserves a safe and permanent home as quickly as possible,” Alcovy CASA Director Lindsay Tyner said. “Today we are pleased that two more children were able to find their forever family.”

Currently, there are 195 children in foster care in Newton County, 60 have a CASA volunteer.

One-hundred-thirty-five of the children in foster care are still seeking representation, which can be provided by CASA. Alcovy CASA training class starts in January, and lasts 30 hours in the classroom and 10 more in the court observations.

For more information on how to become a CASA volunteer contact Tyner at 678-1246 or alcovycasadirector@aol.com.

Out of the 38,351 homes in Newton County, only 25 are foster homes, as of 2014.
