Two DeKalb County men have been arrested and charged with the murder of 36-year-old Akili Jabari Stewart, whose body was found burning in Social Circle.
Corey Thomas, 20, and Antonio Jones, 24, were both charged with murder Thursday.
The arrest comes after more than a month of investigation by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the DeKalb County Police Department, the Social Circle Police Department and the Georgia State Fire Marshal's Office.
Stewart's body was discovered around 11:45 p.m. March 30 when a motorist on Interstate 20 called 911 to report what they believed was a brush fire near U.S. Highway 278 and I-20. When firefighters began to extinguish the blaze they found Stewart's body. An autopsy performed by the Medical Examiner revealed the cause of death was not the fire, but the gunshot wounds that occurred prior to the blaze.
