A state trooper came to the Covington Police Department and turned over a Springfield 45 cal. ACP Saturday.

According to reports, the trooper found the gun laying on the east bound land of Washington Street at Flat Shoals. T

he weapon, reportedly was loaded with five hollow point bullets in the magazine and one in the chamber.

When CPD ran the serial number, the gun came back stolen.

Man arrested for kidnapping, battery

Covington Police responded to a call from a resident of Holmes Court, stating a woman was being beat in the street Sunday.

According to reports, the caller said the woman was then pushed up against her door and forced into her house. The caller also told police there was a child in the street crying, who was also taken into the house.

The police, who were not given an address, found a house with vehicles in front matching the description, and had signs of a disturbance out front. According to reports, clothes were in the front yard, along with some shoes and a set of keys, and no lights were on and it appeared as if no one was home.

After police knocked at the door, they used the keys found in the yard to open the backdoor to check on the welfare of the suspected victims. When the back door was opened, a woman and her child then came running out, according to reports.

The child, reportedly, told an officer that “daddy” was still inside. According to reports, the child had a small open cut on their forehead.

After police asked the suspect to come out of the house for 15 minutes, Henry Seats finally did.

The child reported to police that his injury came from his daddy pushing him down. According to reports, the victim said an argument ensued outside the residence and her and the child’s father started wrestling and forced her into the house.

Seats was arrested and charged with kidnapping, two counts of false imprisonment, cruelty to children third degree, battery family violence and simple battery.

Juvenile attacked by pitbull
A juvenile at the neighborhood pool of Oakwood Manor was attacked by a pitbull on Saturday, June 14, according to Newton County Sheriff’s reports.

Eyewitnesses told deputies that a large pit bull escaped from its kennel and attacked and bit a juvenile girl multiple times. Witnesses also told deputies that the juvenile girl was walking along the sidewalk when the dog got loose and ran toward her. According to reports, as the juvenile attempted to get away, the dog bit her on both hands multiple times.

The juvenile was, reportedly, taken to Newton County Medical Center Emergency Room by her mother before deputies arrived.

Deputies spoke to the dog’s owner and contacted animal control to have them en route.
