The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for much of north Georgia, including Newton County, until 2 a.m.
The forecasters are calling for severe weather between 9 p.m. and midnight Wednesday in much of metro Atlanta and Newton County. Long-tracked tornadoes and large hail are possible. Here's the radar and here is the Hazardous Weather Outlook issued this morning.
The Associated Press reports that multiple counties reported damage this morning from possible tornadoes as the storms moved across the state. Authorities say there have been no reports of injuries so far.
Crystal Paulk-Buchanan with the Georgia Emergency Management Agency said five nursing home patients in Dade County are being moved to Chattanooga, Tenn., because of power outages. She said at least one school district, Floyd County, is closing early for the day.
The stormy weather should give way to sun and a high of 75 on Thursday and of 79 for Friday.
