A Newton High School student was arrested and charged with battery on a school teacher Friday afternoon.

According to Newton County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Corporal Anthony Washington, the student — 17-year-old Juhwan M. Davis — was reportedly skipping class when a teacher at NHS noticed him.

The teacher allegedly told Davis to follow him to the front office, but on the way Davis reportedly changed his mind and attempted to get away from the teacher. When he did this, the teacher allegedly reached out to grab Davis and keep him from running away but in the process slipped and fell. The teacher suffered a laceration on his hand and a facial injury.

Davis fled the school but was later arrested.
