Storms will usher in more rain, followed by cold temperatures across Newton, Rockdale and surrounding counties this week.

The National Weather Service (NSW) issued a hazardous weather outlook for Sunday afternoon and evening. The weather will bring strong-to-severe storms and occasionally heavy rainfall across north Georgia. Strong to potentially damaging winds can be expected and perhaps an isolated tornado. According to the NSW 1.5-2 inches of rain is possible, leading to potentially minor flooding.

The weather outlook from the NSW also stated “instability ahead of the cold front will be limited but any storms that manage to develop could produce damaging winds and perhaps an isolated tornado.”

Severe storms will also be possible Sunday, with damaging winds continuing to be the main threat.

By midweek a cold artic air mass will move into the southeast, bringing a low of 19 degrees Wednesday and a high of 36 on Thursday.

“By Thursday morning the combination of very cold temperatures and winds may lead to dangerously cold wind chills,” the NSW said.
