CONYERS, Ga. (AP) — Authorities say two men have been arrested after a deputy crashed while pursuing them in an area east of Atlanta.

The Georgia State Patrol told local news media outlets that Rockdale County deputy Jerry Poreba crashed Wednesday while pursuing two theft suspects. A GSP spokesman says deputies responded to a theft call on Ga. 138, and tried to block the vehicle carrying the suspects but it hit a patrol vehicle and left the parking lot.

Authorities say Poreba drove off the road and hit a fence while pursuing the suspects. The suspects were arrested in the Calloway Crossing neighborhood.

Names of the suspects have not been released.

Rockdale County Sheriff's Office says Poreba is in stable condition at Atlanta Medical Center. He is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
