The Newton County Special Olympic Equestrian Team consists of 12 athletes with various special needs and disabilities but also great talents.
When the athletes succeed, attitudes change, communities develop, health and self-esteem are built and the eyes of the world are focused on all that is good, hopeful and positive. The sport of equestrian also helps these athletes develop gross motor skills, fine motor skills, balance and most of all, confidence.
These athletes practice for several months to prepare for the Georgia Special Olympic State Horse Show that is held in Perry every August. The team has several volunteers who volunteer their horses, barn facilities, tack and time to work with these athletes to prepare.
The team is composed of Taylor Bradley, Tyler Stoddard, Gabby Crews, Aislin Gates, Elyse Keup, Cory Conrad, Nick Slade, Travis Ransom, Celeste Hall, Michael Roper, Lucy McDonald and Beau Worley.
