Smith found guilty of '09 murder

Ricky Lewis Smith, 46, of Covington was found guilty of the shooting death of a woman last Wednesday by a Newton County jury.

He was found guilty of malice murder, felony murder, two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of possession of firearms during the commission of a felony and possession of firearm by convicted felon.

Smith is expected to be sentenced early next week.

On November 8, 2009, Smith shot and killed Tajuana Lashawn Stroud of Covington at his brother's home off Ga. Highway 162 in south Porterdale. Smith also shot and wounded his brother, Steven Cadet Smith, who survived.

The trial started Tuesday at the Newton County Courthouse with Judge John M. Ott presiding.
