A home on Gum Creek Trail was shot several times Nov. 13, and investigators are looking for help from the community to find those responsible.

According to 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell with the Newton County Sheriff’s Department, deputies received a call about shots being fired in the area at roughly 1:30 a.m. When they arrived at the home, the residents — a man and wife and their 15-year-old son — reportedly told the deputy they woke to the sound of gunshots outside their home.

Upon investigation the family found a bullet hole in the juvenile’s bedroom. Investigators also reportedly found several other holes in the home — both on the outside and the inside.

Witnesses in the area reported a small black car with no lights on sitting in the area around the time of the shooting. According to Mitchell, no other homes were targeted.

Investigators are asking that anyone with information contact Criminal Investigation Division at the NCSO at (678) 625-1400 or online at http://sheriff.co.newton.ga.us. All calls and tips can remain anonymous.
