Join Shane Millwood and CARE, Sunday August 16th at 8:00 p.m. for a night of music and dancing at the newly renovated Porterdale Gym. All proceeds are for CARE’s newest assistance project — providing scholarship money to one or more of Porterdale’s high school students attending the Newton County Career Academy (NCCA).
Scholarships will be awarded during the 2014-2015 school year to one or more high school juniors/seniors residing in Porterdale AND who attend the NCCA. Eligible students are those planning to further their education beyond high school.
The number of scholarships depends on the amount of money raised and the number of qualified applicants. Scholarship applications will be reviewed by members of CARE and awarded based on a combination of GPA, essay and interviews. Specifics about the scholarship will be distributed to students through the administration at NCCA during the next school year.
For the past four years, CARE has actively provided “a hand-up” to Porterdale’s residents. Some of their projects include the annual coat give-away, annual school supplies give-away, planting rose bushes at Rose Hill with donations from Keep Newton Clean and Beautiful, providing free house paint with donations from Valspar and miscellaneous assistance to the elderly. CARE is now expanding its dedication to investing in one of Porterdale’s most important resources — high school students motivated to further their education.
So bring your chairs, coolers and friends to see Shane Millwood, Saturday August 16th at 8:00pm. Advanced tickets on sale for $10.00.
Will also be available at the door for $15.00.
