Troy University in Covington and Georgia Career Institute in Conyers will hold public service events in the coming week.
On Saturday, June 22, GCI will hold a "Cut-A-Thon" from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to promote the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The private charity is not government-affiliated and is supported by private donations.
At the event, haircuts will be available for a minimum $5 donation. There also will be chair massages, polish changes, and makeup applications performed by students. GCI has set a $4,000 fundraising goal.
The Georgia Career Institute is located at 900 Flat Shoals Road, Conyers.
Troy blood drive
Troy University will hold a Red Cross blood drive from 1 to 6 p.m., June 26, on its campus at 1160 Monticello St., Covington. Appointments can be made by visiting redcrossblood.org and entering the sponsor code troycov. Walk-ins also are welcome.
Participants should make sure to get a good night’s rest before donating blood. They also should eat a well-balanced, nutritious meal, and drink lots of fluids during the 48 hours before donating.
