For the sixth consecutive year, the Jackson Lake Homeowners Association will be awarding scholarships to deserving high school seniors from public high schools in the three counties surrounding Jackson Lake - Newton, Butts and Jasper.

In addition to financial need, the JLHA scholarship committee bases their decisions on applicants' community service and academic records.

Along with the application, an essay and a completed community service form are required. The total amount awarded in each county is $1,500, with the scholarship committee making the determination regarding how it is allocated.

The typical allocation is $500 to each of three students. The scholarship committee includes members from all three counties. The chairman is Linda Godin from Butts County.

JLHA scholarship applications are available from the counselors' offices at all public high schools in the three counties. Application deadline is April 15.

Jackson Lake Homeowners Association is a nonprofit corporation. Unlike traditional homeowners associations, JLHA does not have covenants related to homeowners' properties.

It was formed as a service organization to improve life on the lake and works closely with Georgia Power regarding lake cleanups and environmental issues affecting the lake.
