Rotary Club onion sale to benefit stocking fund

The weather has been nice and hopefully April showers have made way for May flowers.

That means spring is here, and with spring in Georgia, comes Vidalia onions. The Covington Rotary Club is selling the sweet vegetables around Newton County to help keep one of Georgia’s prized foods in the state.

The onion sale also goes to a good cause, with proceeds going to the Empty Stocking Fund. The Empty Stocking Fund is the Covington Rotary Club’s biggest fundraiser, helping bring Christmas presents to hundreds of Newton County children who would not otherwise have any.

To help out this cause, purchase a 25-pound bag of Vidalia onions for $20. The onions will be available for pickup May 20.

If you know a Rotarian, they will gladly get the onions in your hands. If you don’t, contact The News editor Bryan Fazio at 770-728-1438 or bfazio@covnews.com or publisher T. Pat Cavanaugh at 770-787-6397 and they will gladly help get the onions into your kitchen.
