LAGRANGE - Troup County officials say a woman died after being hit by a rock slung through the windshield of a car.

Sheriff Donny Turner said the vehicle was northbound about 1 p.m. Wednesday while a Department of Transportation tractor was mowing.

The sheriff says a rock was slung from under the tractor, traveling through the windshield and striking the passenger. The car went off the road and into a ditch.

Turner says the woman was taken to West Georgia Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead. Her name was not immediately released.

The sheriff's office and the Georgia State Patrol are investigating.
