Conservative web writer and radio host Erick Erickson endorsed Newton County resident Aaron Brooks for the Georgia House District 112 seat.
Erickson is the editor-in-chief of RedState.com, a grassroots conservative website, and talk show host on News 95.5 and AM 750 WSB. Brooks is competing in a Republican runoff election against Morgan County resident Dave Belton.
“If you’re in Aaron Brooks’ House District 112, vote for Aaron Brooks, he’s in the runoff,” Erickson said. “He has worked hard on the ground, he’s a younger guy and he’s fresh blood in the state legislature,” Erickson said June 12 on his radio show.
“He’s a good guy, not a proponent of common core. He’s a small government guy, very much worth supporting; take a look at him in House District 112.”
Brooks, who is a founding member of a fellow grassroots organization, the Newton Conservative Liberty Alliance, was excited to get the endorsement.
“I’m thrilled to have the endorsement of Erick Erickson, who is one of the prominent voices of the conservative movement,” Brooks said. “Erick has continually been a leader for limited government and to have him recognize my campaign is an honor.”
Brooks supports implementing the FairTax and eliminating the state income tax. Brooks and the Liberty Alliance have campaigned against county millage rate increases and government overspending.
Brooks is a regional sales manager for Faultless Starch, a commercial laundry supplies company based in Kansas City, Missouri. He has lived in Covington for 20 years with his wife of 15 years, Michelle. The couple has two children and attend Philadelphia United Methodist Church. Brooks also served in the U.S. Navy from 1994-1995.
Erickson’s endorsement of Brooks follows on the footsteps of former House District 112 representative Doug Holt endorsing Brooks’ opponent Belton. Newton County resident Ester Fleming Jr., who finished third in the primary for the 112 seat, also endorsed Belton.
Belton finished first in the primary with 2,079 votes (37.8 percent), while Brooks was second with 1,882 votes (34.22 percent).
