Prayer event to return to Covington

Community leaders and area churches will band together for the second annual Community on Our Knees, a community prayer event, at 7 p.m. Aug. 3, on the downtown Covington square.

The event is held in conjunction with the beginning of the 2013-14 school year so that participants can join together to pray for students, families, teachers, administrators, bus drivers, janitors, cafeteria workers, BOE elected officials, all Newton County School System employees, the city of Covington, and Newton County officials and civil servants.

There will be a prayer wall and prayer center available on the square beginning at 9 a.m., the Saturday of the event. The entire community is invited to come downtown, spend time in prayer and leave a prayer stone on the wall.

There also will be praise music, and those attending are encouraged to wear school colors, clothing with school logos or sports jerseys. They also are asked to bring lawn chairs.
