Update, 4:47 p.m.: Power has been restored to much of the city of Covington. Utility Director Bill Meecham said about three-fourths of the city had its power restored, but there are still some pockets without power.

The cause appears to be a tree that fell into a 100-volt transmission line near Cousins Middle School on Carlton Trail.

The city will continue to work to restore power to any areas where power is still out.

Update, 4:24 p.m.: Interim Covington City Manager Billy Bouchillon said the city is working to get the power up, but it's unclear how long it will take. Bouchillon said the city may be able to do a high-transmission line switch which would get power up quickly, but if that's not possible it could be a couple of hours.

4 p.m. Though details are scare, much of the City of Covington appears to be out of power including downtown. Covington Utility Director Bill Meecham said it appears that one of the city's high-voltage transmission lines, which feeds power to the city, has been affected.
