Around 500 City of Covington electric customers and 120 Georgia Power customers in the Alcovy Road area lost power during an approximately hour window after 11 a.m. Area businesses, including restaurants and hotels were affected as well as some of the industries in Lochridge Industrial Park.
Georgia Power spokeswoman Carol Boatright and Covington Utility Director Bill Meecham said there is a problem in one of the joint power substations that serves both utility providers’ customers. All customers have been rerouted through other substations and power has been returned. Meecham said Covington customers east of Alcovy Road were temporarily affected as well.
Georgia Power is investigating the substation to determine why it failed.
