Artist Linda Pflug has been chosen artist of the month at Southern Heartland Art Gallery. A transplant from Florida, Linda has been involved in the arts for 50 years and owned her own gallery in Fort Myers Florida. Pflug’s work has won numerous national awards and appears in many corporate and private collections.

Primarily a figurative and portrait artist, Linda works in oil, pastel, colored pencil and graphite and particularly enjoys painting children’s portraits. Linda’s accomplishments include mural painting, furniture and floorcloths.

"Portraiture is my first love. It is such a challenge to capture not only the likeness of a person but also the essence of their personality. Children especially are so open to revealing themselves that it is a delight to commit that to canvas or paper," said Pflug.

She is the Artist in Residence for "Tuesday Paint Party," a free open to the public outreach program hosted by SHA Inc. as part of their nonprofit mission supporting the visual arts.

Pflug also teaches a painting class at Southern Heartland Gallery, located on the square in Covington. She welcomes new students as well as more experienced artists. On Jan. 30 Pflug will teach a workshop at the Gallery for learning to draw based on Betty Edwards book "The New Drawing on the Right side of the Brain".

The class will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call Pflug at (770) 385-7422.
