Both the Covington Police Department and the Newton County Sheriff's Office are seeking the community's help in finding men that they say are responsible for robberies on April 11 and 14.
According to NCSO 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell, deputies were alerted to the BP convenience store on Salem Road at roughly 3:30 a.m. April 11 by an alarm. When they arrived the culprit had fled but not before looting approximately $500 worth of cigarettes.
The deputy that first arrived immediately noticed the front door of the store was forced open, according to Mitchell. As he entered the store he noticed that multiple cartons of cigarettes were gone.
The store's security camera was able to catch several images of the alleged robber, as well as the vehicle they believe he drove off in. Anyone with information on this crime is asked to contact the NCSO at (678) 625-1400 or online at www.sheriff.co.newton.ga.us. Tips can be given anonymously.
Man robs Long John Silver's restaurant
On Tuesday, officers from the CPD were busy when a man allegedly robbed the Long John Silvers restaurant located on U.S. Highway 278.
The brazen thief walked into the store at around 6:50 p.m. and spoke with the employee up front about food items, according to CPD Detective D.J. Seals. The man then turned around as if he were going to leave but quickly turned back around facing the employees and had his hand under his shirt as if he were clutching a gun. According to Seals, the man told the startled employees to give him "everything in the drawer" and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
He was also caught on video surveillance. He is described as a white male, about 6-feet-tall and roughly 200 lbs. He had light brown facial hair and was wearing a multi-colored, horizontally-stripped shirt as well as a light brown baseball hat. Employees also said he was wearing "clear framed glasses" that appeared to be more for show than necessity. He may have left in a white Ford F-150 truck.
