Piedmont Cattlemen holds awards banquet

The Piedmont Cattlemen's Association recently held their 2011awards banquet at the FFA-FCCLA Center in Newton County with approximately 120 members in attendance.

Several award categories were given.

Member of the Year was awarded to Charles Woodward of Newton County. Commercial Cattleman of the Year was awarded to Frank Pool of Jasper County. Pure Bred Cattleman of the Year was awarded to Dale DeLong of Newton County.

The local Hay Contest was divided into four categories. Top prize for Cool Season Perennial and Warm Season Perennial was awarded to Charles Woodward of Newton County. Top prize for Grass Baleage was awarded to Frank Malcolm of Jasper County. Top prize for Mixed and Annual Grass Hay was awarded to Patrick Green of Little Springs Farm in Newton County.

The association also had award winners in the Southeast Regional Hay Contest which was held in conjunction with the Sunbelt Agricultural Expo in Moultrie, Ga. Charles Woodward of Newton County placed second for Cool Season Perennial and Frank Malcolm placed second for Grass Baleage.

The annual Sunbelt Agricultural Expo hosts more than 1200 exhibitors showcasing the latest in farming and agricultural technology.

The Piedmont Cattlemen's Association serves Butts, Jasper, Rockdale and Newton counties.
