What was supposed to be a fair trade off turned into a theft on Feb 23.

Last Sunday, around 5:27 p.m., an officer was dispatched to a report of a theft of a phone on Green Street.

According to Covington Police Department incident report, the victim met the man on an a app called Letgo. The victim told police that she and her husband went to meet the suspect who was potentially going to purchase the phone.

Police said when the woman handed the black Iphone 7 to the suspect, he ran with it behind a house toward a storage building.

The phone was valued $600, and couldn’t be tracked since the suspect cleared out the database. Authorities issued the victim a Georgia Crime Information Center (GCIC) card.

A CPD spokesman said anyone is welcome to meet at the Covington Police Department to meet individuals when they are selling or buying items.  CPD's new location is 13183 Harland Dr.

If you can't come to the police department the spokesman suggested meeting in a public place that has security cameras.
