Pedestrian killed trying to cross road

Benita O'Neal Marks, 57, of Covington, was killed Thursday as she attempted to cross Ga. Highway 36 at Lassiter Street around 6:50 p.m.

A 2007 Ford F150 driven by Derrick Nichols of Covington was traveling south when Marks reportedly stepped in front of his vehicle, according to Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright. Nichols did stop his vehicle when he struck Marks.

Marks died at the scene. The crash remains under investigation by GSP. There are no charges pending against Nichols.
