What should have been a Saturday enjoying basketball games turned into a fight at one high school and an all-out brawl at another school.

Around 2 p.m., deputies from the Newton County Sheriff's Office were called to Alcovy High School with reports of a fight in the gym.

Alcovy's JV girls' basketball team had been playing Henry County when two of the players got into an argument during the game. While they were arguing and fighting, a number of adults and other fans reportedly rushed onto the court and began fighting too.

One parent was struck in the face by an unknown person and suffered a bloody nose and mouth, but there were no other injuries.

A few hours later, three people were arrested and three others charged after a fight broke out following an Eastside High School basketball game.

A deputy was leaving the gym after the EHS versus Newton High basketball game when he heard people yelling about a fight in the parking lot. Upon the deputy's arrival, the report indicates that he found "several fights."

The deputy, along with two others who were inside the gym at the time, responded to the fights in the parking lot, as well as other deputies and some officers from the city of Covington Police Department.

While it is unclear what the fight was about, several people were arrested. London Carroll, 17, Leala Roberts, 44, and Brittany Nesbit, 24, were all arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Two juveniles were charged with disorderly conduct as well, and a warrant was taken for the same charges for 17-year-old Jordan Lytle.

"Kids, more often than not, I have found, follow the examples and beliefs of their parents while at school," said Superintendent Gary Mathews. "That said, we will act according to our school discipline code when adjudicating these unpleasant matters to keep others safe and punish those who would disrupt our settings."
