Easter will be celebrated this year on April 8. Local churches have gathered together to present a week full of fun events that the whole family can enjoy during this holiday.
On April 1, the First Baptist Church of Covington will present a musical called "God with Us." It will be performed in the sanctuary of the church at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. During the week after the musical, there will be
a service every day at noon for Holy Week.
Mansfield Baptist will be having an Easter EGGstravaganza on April 1st starting at 4 p.m. There will be a movie, egg hunt for babies through 12-year-olds. A movie will be shown and hot dogs will be served as well.
Red Oak United Methodist Church will celebrate Palm Sunday today at 11 a.m., Monday and Thursday at 7 p.m., Good Friday at 7 p.m., and Easter services beginning at 7 a.m. and 11 a.m. There will be an Easter egg hunt after service.
From April 2 through April 7, downtown merchants and Main Street Covington will be hiding 300 Easter eggs throughout downtown Covington. Participating stores will hide 40 eggs each day. The boundaries will be from the rail line in the north, Emory Street on the West, Elm Street on the East and Conyers Street in the South. The eggs will have candy, coupons, special offers from the stores, and over $300 Main Street Bucks that can be redeemed at downtown businesses.
Clues and updates will be featured on the downtown businesses Facebook pages and the Downtown Covington-Main Street Facebook page.
First Presbyterian Church in Covington will have a Maundy Thursday service on April 5 at 7 p.m. They will host an Easter Egg Hunt April 7 at 11 a.m. and Easter Sunday Worship at 11 a.m.
Richards Chapel United Methodist Church will be having a Good Friday service studying Jesus' last words to his followers on April 6 at 7 p.m. They will have a Resurrection/Easter Service at 11 a.m. on April 8th.
On April 7 Social Circle will be having a Helicopter Egg Drop sponsored by The Avenue Church. The event will take place at South Walton Recreation Complex. There will be three separate drops for the varying age groups.
Toddlers up to 12-years-old can participate.
There will also be another Easter Egg Hunt at Allen Memorial Methodist Church located in Oxford. Registration begins at 1 p.m. and the hunt begins at 2 p.m. There will be a photo opportunity with the Easter Bunny and arts and crafts for children. They will also have a sunrise service at 7 a.m. followed by breakfast in Lovern Hall located in the back of the church. Sunday school will be at 9:45 a.m. and traditional service will begin at 11 a.m.
Calvary Community Church will also have a Sunrise service followed by breakfast and morning worship at 10 a.m.
Smyrna Campground and Presbyterian Church in Conyers will have Easter Week services starting on Palm Sunday at 11 a.m. There will be a communion service at 7 p.m. on Monday and Thursday and a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. On April 7, there will be an Easter Egg Hunt for kids two through 12-years-old. On Easter Sunday there will be a SonRise service at 7 a.m. with breakfast following. A traditional service will follow.
