Outdoor burning ban in effect today

Wildfires across Georgia are putting a strain on firefighting capacities and led to a ban on outdoor burning, according to the Georgia Forestry Commission.

Permits have been cut off until further notice, according to a release from Mike Sapp, chief ranger for Newton, Rockdale, Henry and DeKalb counties.

Firefighters are battling blazes across southeast Georgia and in Emmanuel, Burke and Telfair counties, according to a forestry commisison release. There were some 71 fires that have consumed 950 acres statewide.
