Mayor Ronnie Johnston estimates that up to 10,000 people watched Saturday’s Fourth of July fireworks show, with as many as 2,000 packed into Covington’s Square. Monday night, Johnston and the city council credited Robert Foxworthy for making it possible.
Last year, Foxworthy told the council he’d raise money for the annual display, and the city agreed to match him dollar for dollar up to $10,000. Foxworthy eventually gathered $13,000 in donations. In all, 85 people and businesses gave money.
The council formally thanked Foxworthy Monday. He then promised to do it again.
“I’m going to help you all next year and it’s going to be bigger than this year,” he said.
