One lane on I-20 west in Newton County will be closed from Sunday through Thursday for bridge work.
The Georgia Dept. of Transportation said one lane – presumably the far right lane – will be closed because of work on the right shoulder, including milling and asphalt work.
The work will take place between mile marker 92 (the Alcovy Road exit) and 95, which is in between the Ga. Highway 11 and Ga. Highway 142 exits.
Transportation department spokeswoman Cissy McNure said a flagman may be used for this work and asked motorists to use caution, reduce their speed and be alert to changing traffic conditions in work zones.
The work is part of a $6.7 million federal project consisting of bridge rehabilitation on Interstate 20/State Route 402. The project in Newton County is focusing on the bridges over the Alcovy River and over the Alcovy River Overflow.
The project was let to construction August 2013 and has a contract completion date of June 30, 2014; Tyrone-based Massana Construction was awarded the project.
