The Old Oxford Road Bridge that crosses Interstate 20 west of Covington is almost back to 100 percent after a dump truck damaged the overpass in August 2014.
E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc. poured the bridge deck Thursday.
All that remains are the bridge walls, guard rails and painting the beams. If weather allows, these remaining tasks could be finished by the end of next week.
The established detour remains until that official date is determined.
The Georgia DOT previously closed the bridge to motorists due to the structural damage sustained. The major truck impact affected the beams and driving surface. The insurance process prolonged scheduled repairs necessary to ensure safety of all motorists. Marks and standards were met between Georgia DOT, insurance parties and the contractor, allowing work to begin last month.
