Odds are good for rain for Tuesday

There's a 50-50 chance for rain after 2 p.m. today in Newton County, with the National Weather Service saying we could receive a quarter-to-half-inch of precipitation this afternoon.

The rainfall chance increases to 60 percent this evening, with showers most likely from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m.

The rain chance drops to 30 percent for Wednesday, then forecasters are calling for sunny, hot conditions into Saturday, with a high on Saturday of 99.

Only isolated storms occurred on Monday in Georgia, mostly west and southwest of Atlanta.

There were no reports of major storm damages over the weekend in Newton County, according to the weather service, but storms on Sunday downed a large tree on the quad at Oxford College. Storms Friday and Sunday evenings raked Newton County with strongs wind gusts.
