October registration renewal notices delayed

The Department of Revenue (DOR) announced renewal notices for October motor vehicle tags will be delayed due to a contractor problem.

In a press release, the DOR said the vendor contracted to print and mail renewal notices on behalf of local county tag offices has faced several operational and production-related issues, causing a severe delay in mailings.

Although renewal notices are not required, they are mailed to motor vehicle owners in participating counties. Vehicle owners are required to pay the full renewal amount on time—typically, the anniversary of the date the motor vehicle was first registered or based on the business name.

Newton County citizens can renew their tags in person at or mail renewal fees to the Newton County Tax Commissioners’ Office at 1113 Usher Street, Suite 101, Covington, GA 30014.

Online registration is also available using a Renewal Identification Number (RIN), usually located on the renewal notice. Since October notices are delayed, residents may use the RIN look up tool found on the department’s web site at dor.georgia.gov.

Phone renewals can be made by calling 1-877-496-0249.

They may also be made at kiosks located in some Kroger stores, a Community Center and some county tag offices.
The DOR said it is working to mail out November notices on time.
