Nonprofit hosts Scrabble tournament

Residents can test their vocabulary for a good cause at the annual Scrabble tournament and fundraiser for Newton County READS from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Card Student Center at Oxford College.

The annual event is held to raise funds for books, supplies and scholarships for literacy, GED and ESL programs in Newton County.

The tournament is designed for teams of two, that will compete in three 30-minute rounds. The cost is $25 per player for adults and $10 per player for children ages 8 to 12.

Teams can pre-register or register at the door. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Door prizes also will be given out and refreshments will be available.
