Main Street Covington, the Arts Association and local governments have partnered to seek nominations for individuals and/or groups to "light" the Newton County Courthouse during the annual holiday ceremony on November 18. The chosen person and/or group will have the opportunity to flip the switch as the historic courthouse is lit up ushering in the holiday season in downtown Covington.

"The Lighting of the Courthouse is such a wonderful holiday tradition we have here in Newton County," said Abigail Morgan-Coggin of the Arts Association. "Through involvement with other organizations downtown, it was decided that we need to share this experience with others and one way to do that was by allowing people to be nominated to flip the switch. This is a great way to honor someone in our community who is deserving."

"This is the sixth year that we have sought nominations," added Coggin. The Lighting will take place on Thursday, Nov. 18 at 6 p.m.

The Lighting of the Courthouse Committee is seeking individuals and/or groups who do for the community, those people who are selfless and give without wanting anything in return.

Nomination forms can be downloaded from www.downtowncovington.org and www.newtoncountyarts.org. The nomination form includes an essay (500 words or less) — "Why I Am Nominating This Individual and/or Group."

Nominations must arrive at Main Street Covington, 2104 Washington Covington, GA, 30014 by 5 p.m. Nov. 11. The winning nominee will be decided on and contacted on Nov. 12. The Lighting Ceremony takes place at 6 p.m. on Nov. 18. For any further information call Main Street Covington at (770) 385-2077.
