In recognition of Cardiac Rehabilitation Week, Newton Medical Center’s Fitness Forum will host a Heart Health Fair for the community from 8 a.m.-noon Feb. 11 in the lobby of the Knox Surgical Center.

Cardiac Rehabilitation Week is being recognized nationally today through Feb. 15 to focus attention on cardiac rehabilitation’s contribution to improving the health and physical performance of people at risk for heart disease, as well as those who have been diagnosed with heart disease or dysfunction. Special events such as the Heart Health Fair will be held in hospitals, exercise facilities and outpatient rehabilitation centers throughout the country.

"It’s never too soon to begin taking care of your heart," said Kim Waters, supervisor of the Fitness Forum. "Many risk factors are within your control and can be reduced by smart lifestyle choices.

"Start by learning your risks for heart disease at our free health fair."

Heart Health Fair attendees will have access to free screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar and weight/body fat percentage. Attendees also can purchase a certificate for a Cholesterol Profile for $15, which can be used the day of the health fair or until Nov. 30. To redeem the certificate, the holder must fast for a minimum of 12 hours prior to taking the profile.

The Heart Health Fair will also feature booths from Newton Medical Center’s Fitness Forum, dietitian, laboratory, Cardiopulmonary Department, Women’s Diagnostic Center, Premiere Obstetrics & Gynecology and Georgia Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. Attendees will have access to a wealth of information on how to take care of their hearts.
