Dance Workshop

Dance Time Inc. is hosting a free dance workshop Saturday, Sept. 21 at West Newton Elementary School, 13387 Brown Bridge Road. The workshop is for girls ages 6 to 18 and will offer an opportunity to learn from some of Newton’s best choreographers. Anyone interested should register online at dancetimeinc.com. Each year Dance Time does a community service event. Last year, the group hosted Sweat to the Beat in conjunction with West Newton Elementary.

Taste of Salem

In the fine tradition of Sunday dinner, Salem United Methodist Church, 3962 Salem Road, Covington, will hold its first-ever “Taste of Salem” at 6 p.m. Sept. 15 in the church’s Family Life Center.

There will be “tasting portions” of many delicious dishes and goodies prepared by the great cooks at Salem. The Newton/Rockdale communities are invited.

Tickets are $10 and will be available at the door.

Proceeds will benefit the Salem UMC Missions Program. For more details, contact the church office at 770-786-6027.

Neighborhood watch

The Mountain View Estates community is invited to attend a neighborhood watch meeting at Good Hope Baptist Church. The meeting will be Saturday, Sept. 14 at 10 a.m. To RSVP for the event, contact Kasundra Ottinger at 229-237-1315.

Food Bank

The Salvation Army’s Covington food bank is out of everything besides green beans, and in dire need of donations, said Salvation Army Director Chrissy Busbee. The Salvation Army is located at 5193 Washington St., Covington.
The Salvation Army is also hosting a barbecue benefit event from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Saturday. Tickets are $7 each and pay for a chicken quarter of Leroy Everett’s Famous BBQ, as well as bread, a side and chips.
