Porterdale

Citizens Academy

The Porterdale Police Department is accepting applications for the 2nd Citizens Police Academy. Classes will be held primarily from 6–8 p.m. Thursdays at Grace Baptist Church or Porterdale City Hall, depending on the evening’s topic. An application and waiver form can be downloaded at cityofporterdale.com. Applications should be returned to City Hall, 2400 Main St., Porterdale, Ga. 30070. Applications are also available at City Hall.

Oxford

New dean at Oxford

Linda Isako Angst has joined Oxford College in Oxford as associate dean for academic affairs.

She serves as a liaison between the Office of Academic Affairs and Oxford faculty as well as Emory College of Arts and Sciences. She is also responsible for administration of policies governing Oxford’s academic program, especially aspects that are specific to students’ academic success. Dr. Angst comes to Oxford from Lewis and Clark College in Portland, Ore.

Covington

Cars and bikes

Newton Trails, Covington-Conyers Cycling Club and Main Street Covington will co-host the Covington Community Bike Ride on Sunday Oct. 6, The ride will depart from the Square Park in downtown Covington at 3 p.m.

The Classic Cars of the Past car show will also be held Oct. 6, hosted by the Covington Rotary Club.
