The Newton Fund, a local fund of The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, is now accepting nominations for the Pat Patrick Big Heart Award. In just its second year, this award is given to a special individual who has made a measurable difference in Newton County through his or her volunteerism.

The award is named in honor of Pat Patrick, the founding chair of the Newton Fund, who has given and continues to give unselfish and untiring service in support of nonprofits in the community.

"This award was created to recognize and honor a local community volunteer who gives back through notable service and time to Newton County," said Bruce Gallman, chair of the Newton Fund. "The Newton Fund understands the importance of civic engagement and how it shapes our community.

"When residents give of their time, talent and resources, critical needs are met and communities are improved."

The 2008 Big Heart Award was given to Lee Aldridge, who also received $2,000 to designate to a nonprofit of her choice. As was done in 2008, this year's recipient will be recognized at a special reception in November.

If you are interested in nominating someone for the Big Heart Award, contact Jasper Tanner at (770) 788-2250 or newtonfund@cfatlanta.org. The deadline for completing and returning nominations forms is Sept. 25.
