Newton Co. firefighters find remains in charred car

 Deputies from the Newton County Sheriff’s Office were called to a vehicle fire late Wednesday night and when they arrived found not only a burning vehicle, but also the charred remains of a body inside.

 According to NCSO 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell, deputies responded at McGiboney Lane off Spring Road at 10:45 p.m. after receiving calls of a vehicle fire there. When they arrived they found the vehicle engulfed in flames on some vacant property. While Newton County firefighters fought the blaze, they noticed that inside the vehicle there were the remains of a person. The person in the car has not yet been identified. Officials are not yet releasing the gender of the person in the vehicle nor the make or model of the burned car.

 The investigation remains ongoing and new information will be released as it becomes available. The body was sent to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for an autopsy.
