The Newton competition cheerleading squad returned from the National Cheerleading Association cheerleading camp at the University of Georgia last week with some new hardware. In addition, the team earned a berth at the NCA Senior and Junior High School National Championship at Dallas in January.

Newton placed first in game time competition and superior ratings in its evaluations. In addition Newton’s team was named the most spirited squad at the camp's competition.

Captain Chelsea Thomas earned the leadership award given to the one captain or co-captain who displays the most spirited leadership. Amber Broughton, Rachel Bussey, Kierra Durant and Thomas were named All-American cheerleaders and Newton earned the Spirit Stick.
