News deliverywoman to retire after 36 years

One of Newton County’s most loyal delivery drivers will be making her final run this Sunday.

Marie Caldwell as been delivering newspapers for 36 years,

"I like the job," Caldwell said. "I’m a people person, and I just enjoyed being out with people."

Caldwell worked for the Atlanta Journal Constitution from July 1, 1969, to July 1, 1997, as a delivery driver in DeKalb County, and has worked for The Covington News since 2004.

Her days behind the wheel are certainly not over. Caldwell, along with her husband, Buck, and their dog, John, plan to spend the time traveling and seeing the country. They plan to strike out west first.

"Mrs. Caldwell was one of the best drivers we’ve had over the years," said Bill Herbert, Circulation Director at The Covington News. "She was always dependable and an asset to the Covington News family."

Caldwell’s route takes her along south Newton County near Lake Jackson. Step out and say thanks to this intrepid deliverywoman if you see her on her final route Sunday morning.
