The Newborn City Council came to a consensus on a $381,635.04 budget for the 2015 fiscal year at Monday night’s meeting.
The 2015 budget is less than the 2014 FY budget, with the council sighting a 15 percent loss of income from the closure of a restaurant six months ago.
A final overview of the 2015 FY budget will be discussed at the council’s December meeting.
Another financial item discussed at Monday’s council meeting was the remaining Special Purpose Local Options Sales Tax (SPLOST) budget.
Every five years this money is allocated to different cities in Newton County. Among the different allocations of funds were: $107,000 to the department of Parks and Recreation, $117,000 to transportation and $119,000 to facilities.
A new budget will be set in 2016. The remaining balances from the SPLOST funds are currently in review and the county is making revisions on where the rest of the funds will go in the community.
